Dad unknowingly finds son's body in pool

PORT DICKSON: A father jumped into a swimming pool to retrieve the body of a child who drowned at a resort here on Saturday, not realising that it was his own son.
Norain Mohd Rahim, 38, jumped into the 1.5m-deep pool at the Bougainvilla Resort in Telok Kemang here when he heard someone shouting that there was a body in it.
Norain, however, found the body of his son, Mohd Haqfiz Muhaimin, 6.
Norain, who was at the resort to attend a school reunion, said Haqfiz, his second child, had his eyes on the pool as soon as he arrived at the resort.
"I wasn't paying attention when my son went to the pool.
"I was taking out the bags from the car while my wife and two other children had gone to the chalet," said Norain, a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency officer in Batu Kurau, Perak.
"I heard people shouting and I ran and jumped into the pool but I did not expect to find my son lying at the bottom.
"God loved him more and we accept the fact that Haqfiz is no longer with us."
The incident occurred about 6.30pm on Saturday when the family from Parit Keroma in Muar arrived at the resort.
Norain's reunion involved 10 of his former classmates and their families.
He said Haqfiz had wanted to go to the pool but his wife, Umni Kelsom Ahmad, 31, insisted that his elder sister go with him.
"He, however, did not wait for anyone and ran to the pool. I noticed that there were three or four others in the pool.
"I tried in vain to resuscitate him."
He said he was disappointed that there was no lifeguard on duty.
Umni Kelsum said she went to the pool to look for her son but did not see him there.
"I thought he had gone to play with his friends, who are the children of my husband's former classmates," she said crying.
